“All of the world’s problems can be solved in the garden.”
– Bill Mollison, co-founder of permaculture
Join us for a delightful brunch and fundraising event as we come together to celebrate our organization’s and community’s commitment to food security, environmental stewardship, and sustainable resource management. We tackle these vital issues through our home-scale. permaculture demonstration site, designed specifically for drylands environments.
Over the past 17 years, we have engaged thousands of people with low-to-no-cost high quality arts, culture, and ecology events, promoting creativity, sustainability, and cultural development in our underserved rural community. Our programs began as artist residencies at late composer, Lou Harrison’s historic straw bale retreat – an intimate sound environment that many consider his last great instrument. Lou Harrison House provided a hub for international artists which later blossomed into a gathering place for environmental activists.
The center has since expanded to an adjacent property and grown into a community resource for ecological awareness, experimentalism, and cultural expression that continues to inspire creativity and earth stewardship through ongoing programs for youth and adults.
In the past two years we have opened our site to hundreds of school children and many more community members teaching them to treat the earth as gently as they would their own body, because our planet is alive and it is she who sustains us. Watching the wide eyed amazement of a child pulling a carrot from the ground or opening a pod of peas and exclaiming “Oh that’s where they come from!” makes what we do worthwhile along with our life changing permaculture courses that have had local and global impact.
Please come support our mission by joining us for this unique and delicious culinary celebration with recipes crafted by the community using our locally sourced food.
SEE YOU IN THE GARDEN!
