Join accomplished natural builder Fox McBride as they lead the effort in building a sunken ceremonial circle using the earthbag process. Whether you can commit to a single day or the entire 10-day build, this is a great learning opportunity where you can experience the process of natural building firsthand. Crew Dates:
Saturday, May 3rd
– Begin construction of bag wall – gravel bag base course, start cement-stabilized earthbag layers (cylindrical wall and entry stairs)
– Build small forms for wall alcoves
Sunday/Monday, May 4th & 5th
– Continue stabilized bag courses
Thursday/Friday, May 8th & 9th
– Complete stabilized bag courses
Saturday, May 10th
– Wrap bag wall and stairs with chicken wire
Sunday, May 11th
– Apply base coat plaster/stucco
Monday, May 12th
– Complete base coat plaster/stucco if not finished on 11th
Saturday/Sunday, May 17th and/or 18th
– Install decorative tiles on walls & stairs
– Apply finish coat plaster/stucco
Exact dates TBD (3 days)
– one coat primer, front & back (AFM Safecoat Transitional Primer)
– sealant on back of wall (AFM Safecoat Dynoseal) – 2-3 coats/30 mils
– two coats paint (AFM Safecoat low VOC exterior paint)
